Getting Out the Vote: Effective AFSCME Member-to-Member Conversations
AFSCME members have the power to influence elections by talking with the people who know and trust them: their co-workers and fellow union members. Getting Out the Vote: Effective AFSCME Member-to-Member Conversations prepares AFSCME members, retirees, activists, stewards, local leaders, political volunteers, and staff to conduct voter outreach that moves members from intending to vote to making and carrying out a specific voting plan.
Through short videos, AFSCME-specific examples, interactive scenarios, a guided MiniVAN walkthrough, and a realistic capstone, learners practice the full GOTV workflow: listen for what matters, connect the concern to collective action, use the Five Steps of the One-on-One GOTV Conversation, address practical barriers, make a direct ask, and document the result accurately.
The course is designed for use across election cycles. Candidate names, offices, election dates, voting rules, scripts, MiniVAN fields, and affiliate-specific action links must be validated and updated. The core relational organizing, voting-plan, data-quality, and follow-up skills remain consistent.
Estimated Completion Time
